Product details

Eigashima Shuzo, also known as White Oak Distillery, is one of Japan's oldest family-run distilleries, located near Osaka Bay in the coastal village of Akashi. With a history dating back to the Edo period, it began as a sake brewery and later expanded to produce shochu, whisky, wine, umeshu, and mirin. The distillery obtained Japan's first whisky license in 1919 but began official whisky production in the 1960s. Despite its small size, the ninth-generation-run distillery is renowned for its artisanal craftsmanship, producing around 48,000L of whisky annually. Their whisky is aged in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and tequila barrels, with single-cask specialties showcasing their commitment to quality and innovation.

Eigashima Shuzo's Goju 50 is a blended Japanese whisky crafted in Akashi, Japan, using wheat, rye, and lightly peated malted barley (10ppm). Double distilled in copper pot stills, it is aged for 3 years in a mix of new oak, ex-bourbon, and ex-shochu casks, then finished for 2 years in ex-sherry casks. Bottled at 50% ABV and non-chill filtered, this whisky boasts aromas of raisin, smoked sea salt, and vanilla pastry, with a palate of bold baking spice and integrated sherry, finishing with flinty dark chocolate. With an average age of 5 years, it balances floral sweetness, salinity, and gentle smoke, showcasing the distillery's artistry.
