The Akkeshi Distillery Hakuro Glistening White Dew Single Malt Whisky marks the 12th release in the celebrated "24 Seki Series," inspired by Japan’s traditional 24 seasonal divisions. Named "Hakuro," this bottling captures the serene transition from summer’s lingering warmth to autumn’s refreshing coolness. Crafted from 100% malted barley, this whisky is heavily peated (exact PPM undisclosed) and double-distilled in Forsyth copper pot stills, a hallmark of traditional whisky craftsmanship. The water source, the Homakai River, is naturally filtered through a layer of peat, infusing the spirit with a unique local character. Aged for a minimum of three years, the whisky matures in an artful combination of Hokkaido mizunara, ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and ex-red wine casks, ensuring complexity and depth. As a non-age statement single malt, it reflects Akkeshi’s innovative approach to whisky-making, delivering both heritage and ingenuity.
The tasting experience is a harmonious symphony of flavors and aromas. On the nose, notes of campfire smoke intertwine with Japanese citrus, custard pudding, and marmalade, evoking a warm and inviting embrace. The palate is a vibrant dance of mandarin orange, ginger, and fizzy orange ramune, offering a playful balance of sweetness and spice. The finish lingers with a delightful combination of white pepper, salted lemon, and a citrusy sweetness that carries a subtle hint of peel bitterness, leaving a memorable impression. Perfect for both whisky connoisseurs and adventurous newcomers, the Hakuro Glistening White Dew is a testament to Akkeshi’s mastery in blending tradition with nature's essence.
