Product details
The Ardbeg Abyss is widely considered the best modern Ardbeg ever bottled. Using stocks from the original Corryvreckan Committee Release distilled back in 1989 and aged for 34 years in heavily toasted French oak barrels. The rare bottle is one of only 400 in the world and is presented in a futuristic space capsule meets diving chamber type locking vault along with original artwork from legendary comicbook designer Tradd Moore. Tasting notes from the incredible Dr. Bill Lumnsden, "Rich, pungent, aromatic but mellow, deep and gentle at the same time. These are aromas of toasting marshmallows, aromatic tea leaves, roasted chestnut, baking sourdough bread and something altogether zestier, like lemon balsam, there is a lingering, background sweetness, like demerara sugar, and then a whiff of antique leather. A splash of water opens up the bouquet, to revel more herbal top notes, with a whiff of lemon sherbet and some pine resin. A wonderfully mellow mouthfeel, with a hint of spiciness, is followed by bold flavours of dark chocolate, pecan nut toffee, old leather, clove, ginger and a touch of treacle and creosote. The smoke is always there, but beautifully integrated with the oak tannins, and on the aftertaste hints of baked apple, aniseed and oak."
