Product details
Ben Holladay Bourbon is a testament to the rich heritage of American whiskey, proudly crafted in Missouri at the historic Holladay Distillery, founded in 1856. As the oldest distillery in the state and the oldest west of the Mississippi still operating on its original site, it holds a significant place in the nation’s distilling history. The distillery rests on limestone springs, first charted by Lewis and Clark in 1804, and this mineral-rich water plays a key role in the bourbon’s distinct character. With a unique combination of Missouri’s climate and geology, this bourbon stands apart, reflecting the legacy of its namesake, Ben Holladay, who established a mash bill that continues to be used to this day.
Classified as a Real Missouri Bourbon, this spirit is made entirely within the state, adhering to a 2019 law that defines the strict parameters of Missouri bourbon production. It meets all federal bourbon standards and takes it a step further by being mashed, fermented, distilled, aged, and bottled in Missouri, with corn grown exclusively within the state and aged in Missouri-made oak barrels. Additionally, it carries the prestigious Bottled-in-Bond designation, signifying that it’s been distilled, aged for six years, and bottled at the same distillery. This authentic bourbon marries traditional methods with modern precision, offering a smooth, full-bodied whiskey that honors both history and craftsmanship.
The nose of Ben Holladay Bourbon reveals rich caramel, subtle dry baking spices, and hints of leather and barrel char, complemented by notes of medicinal cherry, raspberry, buttery toffee, and evolving chocolate with a soft herbal sweetness. On the palate, there’s a bolder spice presence, balanced by cola-like sweetness and red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, alongside walnut, semi-sweet chocolate, and a touch of dry oak for a smooth, layered finish.
