Casas del Bosque's Carménère Gran Reserva 2022 from the Valle del Cachapoal showcases Chile’s mastery of the Carménère grape, which originated in Bordeaux but has flourished in Chilean terroir. Harvested in early April from the renowned Peumo commune, this wine balances the herbaceous character typical of the variety with rich, fruity notes. First produced in 2017, the wine has developed into a fresh, structured expression, offering aromas of forest fruits, tobacco, and hints of vanilla and cedar. The warmer 2022 vintage has brought increased aromatic intensity and flavor concentration.
On the palate, this Carménère exhibits floral violet notes and a minty freshness, with noticeable weight and volume that expand across the mouth. The wine’s fine, smooth tannins create a long and persistent finish. Best enjoyed at 16-18ºC (61-64ºF), it pairs beautifully with traditional Chilean dishes featuring onions, peppers, and raisins, as well as soy-based preparations like pork or duck. It also complements slightly sweet cheeses like Gruyere or Chanco. A winemaker's recommendation is to enjoy it with pork stew cooked with aromatic herbs, or even mint-based sauces for a standout pairing experience.
