Product details
This vintage began with one of the rainiest winters on record, followed by a tropical spring
that caused early bud-burst. This early growth pattern continued throughout the vegetative
process. From Easter to Trinity, frequent and intense precipitation, along with a hailstorm in
Saint Julien on April 18th, made vineyard work challenging and sometimes nearly
impossible. The heavy mildew was reminiscent of the 2018 situation. However, the flowering
period benefited from sunny and dry weather at the end of spring. Rain stopped entirely at
the summer solstice, leading to a prolonged warm and dry period that almost caused
drought stress. Fortunately, two storms in mid-August and early September saved the
vintage. The first storm provided essential water to revive the vines, while the second
ensured the berries remained tight and achieved good ripeness.
This wine is rock-solid, featuring a core of dark plum, boysenberry, and blackberry compote
flavors. These are complemented by notes of cedar, savory herbs, tobacco, and singed
apple wood, which add texture and energy to the finish.
