Product details
Château Mongravey, located in the prestigious Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, has been producing exceptional wines since its creation in 1980 by Régis Bernaleau. Nestled between the esteemed Château Giscours and Château du Tertre, the estate benefits from prime vineyard parcels that contribute to the high quality of its wines. In 1999, Karin Bernaleau joined the family business, bringing her expertise in marketing and distribution, while her son, Jérôme, joined five years ago, further strengthening the estate’s viticulture and vinification processes. Château Mongravey earned its "Cru Bourgeois" status in 2003 and was later upgraded to "Cru Bourgeois Supérieur" in 2020, a testament to its growing reputation as one of Margaux’s finest producers, often surpassing some of the region's Classified Growths in quality.
The vineyard spans 36 acres, mostly planted on gravelly soils that promote low yields and concentrated flavors. After harvest, the grapes undergo meticulous vinification, including cold maceration for color extraction and tannin softening, followed by alcoholic fermentation. Half of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrels, and the wine matures for 12-14 months in 60% new French oak. Visually striking with its deep purple hue, the wine offers a seductive nose of cassis, raspberries, spices, vanilla, and toasty notes. On the palate, it is lush and rich, with smooth tannins and a long, lingering finish. This well-structured wine beautifully balances power and elegance, making it a standout in the Margaux region.
