Product details
Boasting an exceptional terroir in the Pessac-Leognan appellation, the Chateau Pape Clement vineyard covers 63 hectares of vines. The vines are planted in soils of Pyrenean gravelly clay. The vineyard is managed on a micro-plot basis. The Chateau Pape Clement estate is certified for High Environmental Value 3, SME, and even holds a Bee-Friendly certification.
Manual plot-by-plot harvest in crates. First sorting in the vineyard. Manual grape-by-grape sorting on the table. Filled into oak vats from 30 to 70 hl by gravity. Pre-fermentation maceration at a low temperature of 8 °C. Fully manual punching down. Maceration time is 30 days. Direct flow into barrels and French oak casks by gravity. Malolactic fermentation in barrels (2/3 new oak and 1/3 of one previous wine).
Deep garnet-purple in color, it hits the ground running with bold, expressive notes of warm cassis, boysenberries, and black cherries, with an undercurrent of clove oil, fertile loam, cedar chest, and tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers a rock-solid foundation of firm, ripe grainy tannins and tons of freshness supporting the densely packed black fruit and earthy layers, finishing very long and mineral-laced.
