This is delicious, a real take-a-step-back moment. There’s a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon here, complex and layered with cassis and bilberry notes that tease the attack before being filled out with charcoal, slate, cedar, and even truffle hints.
Full-bodied, rich and oh-so-spicy on the palate, it has a rock-solid backbone of grainy tannins and lively acidity supporting the opulent fruit, finishing very long and exotic.
The nosing finds mature smells of molasses, honey, milk chocolate and nougat. The palate entry is a touch smoky and very sweet; the honey and molasses tastes come to the fore at the midpalate. Finish is warm, comfortable and mature.

Powerful and complex, with a dark ruby color. Serious and brooding, notes of boysenberry, leather, mint, and rich dark chocolate bound from the glass. The aromas are dense and compact.
The bouquet bursts forth with raspberries and wild strawberries. Persistent powdery notes of iris and violet immediately meld with the fruit aromas. After breathing, greener nuances arrive, evoking privet, angelica and camphor tree.
The 2000 vintage allows Christian Mouiex's Bordeaux-style of winemaking to shine through. This wine explodes in the mid-palate, with essences of spices and leather. The long, lingering finish displays a harmony of tobacco, coffee and fruit.
The iconic 2012 Pape Clement is a candidate for near-perfection as well as one of the wines of the vintage. From proprietor Bernard Magrez, this is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.
