Product details
Desert Door Original Texas Sotol is a distinctive spirit crafted by Desert Door Distillery, founded by three military veterans who discovered the sotol plant in the West Texas desert. Sotol, also known as the "desert spoon," is a resilient evergreen succulent native to the region, historically utilized by indigenous tribes for various purposes, including tools, clothing, food, and fermented beverages. Desert Door honors this rich 10,000-year history by wild-harvesting sotol plants from the Chihuahuan Desert without the use of water, fertilizers, or pesticides, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The plants are then steamed, shredded, fermented with a proprietary yeast, and distilled in custom-built stills at their Driftwood, Texas distillery, resulting in a spirit that embodies the rugged essence of the land.
On the nose, Desert Door Original Texas Sotol offers bright notes of vanilla and green grass, reminiscent of premium tequila. The palate reveals a rich viscosity with flavors of toffee, mint, and orange zest, complemented by subtle hints of sage. The finish is exceptionally smooth, surpassing traditional tequila, with a custard-like quality. This versatile spirit can be savored neat, over ice, or as a substitute for clear spirits in various cocktails. It pairs excellently with dishes that highlight its herbal and citrus notes, such as grilled seafood, roasted vegetables, or Southwestern cuisine.
