Product details
Hamilton Russell Vineyards, established in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell, is a pioneering estate nestled in South Africa's Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus. Specializing in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the vineyard is renowned for producing wines that authentically express the unique terroir of this cool, maritime appellation. Under the guidance of winemaker Emul Ross, the 2022 Pinot Noir exemplifies the estate's dedication to crafting wines of elegance and complexity. The low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soils, combined with a cool maritime climate, result in naturally low yields, enhancing the concentration and character of the grapes. The 2022 vintage was aged for 10 months in 100% 228-liter French oak barrels, with 36% being new oak, imparting subtle nuances to the wine.
The 2022 Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinot Noir presents a brilliant clarity with a deep, dark red hue. On the nose, it opens with enticing aromas of white pepper and nutmeg, complemented by a complex primary fruit perfume. The palate is well-structured, showcasing firm tannins and a balanced acidity that carries through to a lingering finish. Flavors of ripe plum, raspberry, and dark cherry are accented by hints of spice and a subtle earthiness, creating a harmonious and satisfying profile. This Pinot Noir pairs exceptionally well with a variety of dishes, including roasted duck, grilled salmon, and mushroom risotto. Its versatility and depth also make it a delightful companion to aged cheeses, enhancing the dining experience with its layered flavors and elegant finish.
