The 1990 Château Lafite Rothschild is a remarkable vintage, receiving 96 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and 95 points from Wine Spectator. The growing season began with a warm, dry winter, followed by a cooler April that slowed growth. A hot, dry summer allowed the grapes to ripen fully, resulting in a balanced and concentrated harvest. The wine is made with utmost precision, with grapes from different plots fermented in a combination of wooden, stainless steel, and concrete vats to reveal the terroir's magic. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in primarily new oak barrels from Lafite’s own cooperage. Composed of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, it presents a classic nose of cedar with violet notes and a full-bodied palate, marked by complexity, surprising freshness, and round, silky tannins. This wine showcases exceptional length and depth, offering a pleasant finish with remarkable aging potential.
The 2000 Château Lafite Rothschild is a standout vintage, receiving 100 points from Wine Spectator, 99 points from Wine Enthusiast, and 98+ points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Despite challenges such as mildew from wet weather in late May and early June, the summer ended with ideal hot, dry conditions that allowed for slow, steady grape ripening. Harvest began on September 21st and ended on October 10th, yielding grapes with excellent maturity, good sugar levels, and mature tannins. Composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, the wine was crafted with precision, undergoing fermentation in a variety of vats and aged in French oak barrels. The result is a wine of exceptional power and elegance, with captivating aromas, a well-structured tannic profile, and remarkable length. This vintage promises great aging potential, showcasing the perfect balance between strength and refinement.
The 2010 Château Lafite Rothschild is an exceptional vintage, earning 100 points from both Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast, 99 points from James Suckling, and 98 points from Decanter. The growing season began with a cold, wet winter and a slightly delayed bud break in April, followed by a mix of rain and sunshine in May and June. Flowering challenges with the Merlot were overcome by dry, warm weather in July and August, which allowed the grapes to achieve optimum ripeness. Made from 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, the wine underwent precise fermentation and aging in French oak barrels, with 20 months of maturation. The result is a wine with a fine, concentrated color, solid structure, and well-defined tannins. On the palate, it is dense and balanced, with a long, lingering finish and delicate floral notes of violets. This elegant and beautifully structured wine showcases exceptional balance and remarkable aging potential.
