2014 Penfolds Grange
Quite simply, an unmistakable youthful ‘Grange’ nose. Awakened primary fruits and stylish oak interlocked and indistinguishable. As expected. Poised yet powerful. A balanced, tightly-knit, and woven structural ‘tapestry’. Not to be constrained by dimension or frame. 2014 is a Grange offering a subtly different structural mosaic; different tone and timbre.
2015 Penfolds Grange
A vibrant eruption of fruits initially commands attention, embodying Grange's lively personality. Dark coffee grind, malt, and tapenade merge with earthy, almost peaty notes, while dark-skinned berries, dark licorice, and soy add complexity. The oak is completely absorbed, blending seamlessly into the background. Complementing the dark fruit, impressions of ironstone, graphite, iodine, and black ink emerge, creating a formidable texture with meshed tannins and a black pudding viscosity.
2016 Penfolds Grange
The 2016 Grange offers up trademark lifted aromas plus scents of vanilla, toasted coconut, cedar, raspberries, and blackberries. Impressively concentrated and full-bodied, with an extraordinarily long, velvety finish, it's nevertheless reasonably fresh and tight, with decades of cellaring potential if properly stored.
2017 Penfolds Grange
The 2017 Grange reveals a rich blend of scents, including venison carpaccio with balsamic reduction, salsa verde, sticky rice pudding, apricot, vanillin, coconut husk, spiced sandalwood, cumin, and wintergreen. Its flavors unfold with layers of Barossa and McLaren Shiraz fruits, licorice, soy, malt, burnt vanilla marshmallow, and dark chocolate. The oak nuances are seamlessly integrated, resulting in a creamy, velvety texture with tight, slightly rusty tannins and lively, well-managed acidity.
2018 BIN 98 QUANTUM CABERNET SAUVIGNON
A complex dark-berried spectrum commands immediate focus and with further attention blackberry, blueberry, and boysenberry can be teased out. A blue-berried wash and glistening film covers the palate with conviction. Respectful acidity tightens the palate, clenching/compressing around a core of graphite and hazelnut.
