Deep ruby to garnet in color, the 2020 Carneros Estate Pinot Noir shows classic Pinot Noir aromas of black cherry and currant with hints of violet and flint.
Deep colour holds well to a ruby-red rim. Aromas are initially closed with notes of cedar & meat dominating the fruit. On the palate coffee & cedar notes overlay blackcurrant & bitter liquorice flavours.
The iconic 2012 Pape Clement is a candidate for near-perfection as well as one of the wines of the vintage. From proprietor Bernard Magrez, this is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.
From a cooler vintage that saw significant heat spikes later in the year, it has incredible purity in its cassis and darker fruits as well as leafy tobacco, flowers, and background oak.
It’s full-bodied and round, with saturated tannins, tasty, spicy and long, with a dry, serious finish. It’s balsamic, with notes of camphor and a silky and velvety texture.
Opulent, broad, full-bodied and more mature than I expected given how this wine showed in its youth, this deep, rich Cabernet Sauvignon is exceptional. However, in this vintage it has to take a back seat to a number of other cuvees.

Second Flight offers up floral, blue and black fruit, mocha and white chocolate characteristics. It possesses full-bodied, silky flavors, and a finish that lasts 50+ seconds. It can be enjoyed now, but should evolve effortlessly for 12-15+ years.
