The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus comes from a completely different terroir, a western hillside vineyard near Calistoga that averages 10-15 degrees cooler than the eastern part of the valley in what is known as the Black Mountain Gap.
Opaque purple in color with blackberry, creosote, incense and charcoal notes, a touch of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional with terrific concentration, purity and palate presence.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is more closed and backward, yet has stunning currants, roasted coffee, smoked tobacco, and gravelly minerality and shows more violet and floral notes with time in the glass.
